Winners Take All is one of those films that really captures the raw energy of the 80s motorcycle racing scene. The pacing feels both exhilarating and occasionally languid, reflecting the highs of victory and the lows of jealousy. Billy Robinson, the protagonist, is played with a sort of earnest charm that makes you root for him, even as he faces the inevitable haters back home. The practical effects during the racing sequences are pretty solid; you can sense the danger and speed without too much CGI fluff. It’s interesting to see the themes of rivalry and triumph over adversity explored, though sometimes it meanders a bit. Overall, it’s a unique slice of action-adventure that really conveys that gritty, competitive spirit of the time.
