So, 'Women in Cages' is one of those gritty prison films that really dives into the brutality of incarceration, with a twist of exploitation. Directed by Gerardo de Leon, it carries that distinct 70s grindhouse vibe, complete with some really raw performances. Carol Jeffries, played by the somewhat underrated actress, gets thrown into a rough Filipino prison where she faces all kinds of hell. The atmosphere is thick with despair and tension, and the sadistic matron is something else. The pacing can feel uneven but it adds to the chaotic feel of the whole situation. Practical effects and the sheer toughness of the characters make it quite compelling, albeit a tough watch. Definitely not for the faint-hearted, but there's a certain raw honesty to it that stands out in the genre.
