X - He's Always Watching (2013) taps into that eerie, creeping dread that good horror thrives on. It's all about these four folks whose lives spiral into chaos, linked by a looming, faceless figure in a suit. The atmosphere is thick, almost suffocating at times, and it smartly plays with the viewer’s imagination more than it relies on jump scares. Pacing has a slow burn feel, letting the tension build up as the characters unearth dark secrets. The practical effects, while not overly flashy, do have this rawness that I appreciate. There’s a sense of something sinister lurking just beyond view, which makes the film linger after the credits roll. Definitely has a vibe that sticks.
