Young Ivanhoe (1995) has a certain charm, blending adventure and history in a way that feels very much like a classic tale. The film explores Ivanhoe's development under the guidance of the Black Knight, with that layer of intrigue given away by the fact that the Knight is actually King Richard. There's a nice pacing to the story, allowing us to feel the weight of Ivanhoe's journey while also giving us glimpses of the looming Norman threat. Practical effects are decent for its time, although not groundbreaking. The performances, especially from the leads, bring a sense of earnestness that you don't always find in modern adaptations. It's not flashy, but it captures the spirit of the period nicely, making it a distinct entry in the Ivanhoe canon.
