Young Mother (2013) is a curious blend of comedy and romance, though it certainly leans more into the awkwardness of youth. The film follows nineteen-year-old Jin-goo, who’s caught in a rather compromising situation with his English tutor, and the ensuing dynamic is both cringeworthy and oddly charming. It captures that delicate balance of sexual awakening and the awkwardness that comes with it. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, but it does create this comfortable rhythm where you can indulge in the character's misadventures. The performances are naturalistic, which adds to that relatable vibe, and while the premise might seem risqué, it’s more about the exploration of relationships and boundaries. There’s an honesty to the humor that stands out in its own way.
