Zig Zag (Anak Jalanan) really captures a gritty slice of life in the early '90s. You have Egi, who's hustling in a garage amidst the backdrop of Jakarta's punk scene. Silvy and Nanang are both steeped in the rock culture, yet they face familial neglect which adds a layer of depth to their characters. The pacing is a bit uneven but that kind of mirrors the chaotic lives these kids lead. The performances are raw, especially from the young cast, which makes the emotional stakes feel real.
