Zoo is one of those films that captures the raw spirit of childhood against the backdrop of war. The practical effects related to the animal scenes are charming, and the performances, especially from the young cast, bring a genuine emotional weight. Colin McIvor really manages to blend history and family themes without losing sight of that adventure feel.
