BIOGRAPHY

Daisuke Ryū is a celebrated Japanese actor whose performances have left an indelible mark on both cinema and collectors of physical media. Born in Tokyo on February 14, 1957, he gained widespread acclaim for his role as Oda Nobunaga in Akira Kurosawa's "Kagemusha" (1980), which earned him the prestigious Blue Ribbon Award for Best New Actor. However, his portrayal of Saburo Ichimonji in Kurosawa's epic "Ran" (1985) is particularly sought after by collectors, exemplifying his ability to convey deep emotional resonance amidst grand storytelling. Beyond his Kurosawa collaborations, Ryū's role as the legendary warrior monk Benkei in Sogo Ishii's "Gojoe" (2000) has become a staple in collectors’ libraries due to its unique blend of historical drama and action. Additionally, his performance in the television serial "The Ginger Tree" (1989) opposite Samantha Bond showcases his versatility and appeal, further solidifying his status among those who cherish the golden age of Japanese cinema. Collectors are drawn to Ryū's work not just for its artistic merit but also for its historical significance in the evolution of film as a medium.
