Ran is Kurosawa’s bold take on King Lear, and it’s got a mesmerizing blend of history and tragedy. The way he captures the chaos of war with vivid colors and sweeping landscapes is something else. The performances, especially from Tatsuya Nakadai, are raw and filled with emotion. The pacing feels methodical but builds up to explosive moments of conflict. The practical effects in the battle scenes are striking, really immersing you in that era. There’s a haunting beauty in the visuals, too, that sticks with you long after. This film is a deep dive into familial betrayal and the futility of power, wrapped in a cinematic experience you don't often see.
